The National Blood Service Agency (NBSA), the regulatory body responsible for coordinating and ensuring the availability of safe blood and blood products in Nigeria, paid a courtesy visit to the Borno State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (BOSCHMA) to explore potential areas of collaboration in strengthening blood service delivery across the state.
The delegation was led by the NBSA North-East Zonal Director, Dr. Mohammed Kabir Ahmad, alongside other senior officials from the agency.
Speaking during the visit, Dr. Kabir emphasized the critical role of inter-agency collaboration in addressing challenges related to blood availability, safety, and affordability. He noted that partnering with strategic stakeholders such as BOSCHMA would facilitate more integrated approaches to improving access to quality blood services, particularly in emergency and maternal healthcare settings.
In his remarks, the Executive Secretary of BOSCHMA, Dr. Saleh Abba Kaza, warmly welcomed the NBSA delegation and reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at enhancing healthcare delivery in the state. He acknowledged the essential role that blood services play in saving lives and underscored the alignment between NBSA’s mandate and BOSCHMA’s mission to expand equitable access to healthcare through contributory schemes.
The meeting concluded with a mutual agreement to establish a technical working group that will oversee coordination efforts and develop sustainable blood service interventions for the benefit of residents across Borno State.
