BOSCHMA Governing Board Pays Advocacy Visit to His Royal Highness, the Shehu of Borno, on the Commencement of the Formal Sector Scheme
The Governing Board of the Borno State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (BOSCHMA) has paid an advocacy visit to the Palace of His Royal Highness, Alhaji (Dr.) Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai Al-Amin El-Kanemi, the Shehu of Borno to seek royal blessings and support for the smooth implementation of the Formal Sector Health Insurance Scheme in the state.
The delegation, led by the Board Chairperson, Hajiya Mairo Bunu Lawan, alongside the Executive Secretary, Dr. Saleh Abba Kaza, underscored the crucial role of traditional institutions in promoting public awareness, mobilising community participation, and fostering trust in government health programmes.
In her remarks, the Chairperson expressed appreciation to His Royal Highness for his unwavering support towards healthcare initiatives in the state. She also extended profound gratitude to His Excellency, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, mni, FNSE, the Executive Governor of Borno State, for approving the commencement of the Formal Sector Health Insurance Scheme and for his remarkable decision to augment the civil servants’ 3.5% contribution with an additional 6.5% from the government, enabling them to enjoy free and unhindered access to quality healthcare services. She further reaffirmed BOSCHMA’s commitment to partnering with the traditional council to advance the goal of achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in Borno State.The Executive Secretary, Dr. Kaza, noted that the involvement of the Shehu and other traditional leaders would significantly strengthen public confidence and improve enrolment under the Formal Sector Scheme, designed to ensure affordable and accessible healthcare services for civil servants and their dependents.
In his response, His Royal Highness, the Shehu of Borno, commended His Excellency, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, mni, FNSE, for establishing BOSCHMA at a crucial time in the state’s healthcare history. He also lauded the Agency’s efforts in expanding access to quality healthcare across the state and pledged his continued royal support and prayers for the success of the scheme. His Royal Highness further promised to reach out to all district and community leaders under his jurisdiction to sensitise them on the importance of the scheme and encourage full participation. He also advised that such advocacy efforts and gestures be extended to other Emirates across Borno State to ensure collective awareness and inclusiveness in the implementation of the Formal Sector Health Insurance Scheme.
Meanwhile, the BOSCHMA delegation also paid a courtesy visit to the Chief Imam of Borno, where prayers were offered for divine guidance and the successful rollout of the Formal Sector Health Insurance Scheme.
