The Borno State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (BOSCHMA) on Saturday, 30 May 2026, donated 400 cartons of Ringer's Lactate intravenous fluids, comprising 8,000 units valued at approximately ₦4.4 million, to support the ongoing cholera outbreak response in Borno State.

Presenting the donation, the Chairperson of the BOSCHMA Governing Board, Hajiya Mairo Bunu, said the intervention was approved as part of the agency's commitment to supporting the state's emergency response efforts.

"This is a decision taken by the governing board as part of our responsibility to support the cholera outbreak response and serve the people of Borno State during this difficult period," she said.

Receiving the donation on behalf of the Honourable Commissioner for Health and Human Services and the Permanent Secretary, the Director of Pharmaceutical Services, Pharm. Ali Atabo, described the intervention as timely and lifesaving.

"We did not anticipate a donation of this magnitude, but it is highly significant. Over the past two weeks, we have utilized more than 1,000 cartons of Ringer's Lactate in managing cholera cases. This support will help save more lives," he stated.
Speaking on the rationale behind the donation, the Executive Secretary of BOSCHMA, Dr. Abba Saleh Kaza, said the gesture reflected the collective commitment of agencies under the Ministry of Health and Human Services to contain the outbreak.

"This is a collective effort. We consider it our responsibility to support the ministry during this critical period and ensure that affected patients receive timely treatment," he said.

Dr. Kaza commended Governor Babagana Umara Zulum for his continued support to the health sector and called on stakeholders to contribute towards the ongoing response efforts.

He added that BOSCHMA is also supporting public awareness campaigns on cholera prevention while collaborating with other agencies and development partners to contain the outbreak across affected communities.

Following the presentation ceremony held at the Borno State Drug and Medical Consumables Management Agency headquarters in Maiduguri, officials of the Ministry of Health and Human Services, members of the BOSCHMA Governing Board, and management staff proceeded to the State Infectious Disease Hospital along the Maiduguri–Damaturu Road for the onward distribution and handover of the donated medical supplies to support ongoing cholera case management efforts.

The donation is expected to strengthen treatment efforts and complement the Borno State Government's ongoing response to the cholera outbreak.
