The Borno State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (BOSCHMA) organized 1st Quarter progress review meeting with Medical Directors (MDs), Principal Medical Officers (PMOs), Doctors, Pharmacists,  Medical Records Officers, Desk officers and BOSCHMA Focal Persons from six secondary healthcare facilities.( State Specialist Hospital, Umaru Shehu Ultra-Modern Hospital, Mamman Shuwa Memorial Hospital, Maryam Abatcha women and child Hospital, Brigedia General Abba kyari Hospital and General Hospital Biu).

The meeting was conducted in a hybrid format, with some participants attending physically while others, including representatives from General Hospital Biu and other facilities, joined virtually.

The meeting focused on the implementation and performance of the Electronic Health Records (EHR) system across the facilities. The EHR system follows the patient care pathway within the hospital, starting from Medical Records, moving to Triage, then to the Doctor for consultation, followed by Laboratory services and the Pharmacy for medication dispensing. Other discussions include patient referrals and financing of the scheme. This digital process helps improve efficiency, proper documentation, and continuity of care for patients

During the session, the Head of ICT BOSCHMA, Mustapha Mohammed presented detailed performance reports highlighting the progress and level of utilization of the Electronic Health Records system in the participating facilities.

A summary of services rendered from January to March was also presented. Within the period, a total of 677 beneficiaries were attended to across the facilities. The total value of medications dispensed amounted to ₦2,982,069, while the total service order value recorded was ₦1,691,501.

In his welcome address, the Executive Secretary of BOSCHMA Dr Saleh Abba encouraged participants to ensure accurate and effective use of digital systems, emphasizing the importance of digitalization in improving healthcare service delivery and data management.

The Director of Standards and Quality Assurance, Dr. Inna Alimi, delivered a brief presentation outlining the activities of the BOSCHMA clinic. She also highlighted some of the challenges faced, provided recommendations for improvement, and discussed the importance of staff motivation in enhancing service delivery.

It was also agreed that the progress review meeting will be held on a quarterly basis to continuously monitor performance, address challenges, and strengthen the implementation of the Electronic Health Records system across the facilities.

The meeting concluded with closing remarks from the Medical Director of Umaru Shehu Hospital, Dr. Philibus Emmanuel, who commended BOSCHMA for the initiative and encouraged continued collaboration to strengthen the use of Electronic Health Records across the facilities.
