Borno State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (BOSCHMA) HEALTHCARE STAKEHOLDERS STUDY TOUR to Katsina State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (KTSCHMA)
A delegation of BOSCHMA stakeholders which included Chief Medical Directors (CMDs), Medical Directors (MDs), Executive Secretary Borno State Drugs Management Agency ( BODMA) Medical Officers (PMOs)—undertook a study tour visit to the Katsina State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (KTSCHMA). The visit focused on learning from Katsina’s implementation of the Formal Sector Contributory Healthcare Scheme, service delivery at secondary health facilities, and drug supply management systems.
The delegation was warmly received by the Director General of KTSCHMA, Mohammed Lawan Safana, and his management team. Goodwill messages were delivered by key stakeholders in Katsina State, Nura Umar, representative of the Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Health, Katsina State, Pharm. During the engagement, the Executive Secretary of BOSCHMA Dr. Saleh Abba Kaza presented five key objectives of the study tour:
1. To learn from effective governance and coordination systems
2. To understand Katsina’s health workforce structure and processes
3. To study the Health Information System used for data and reporting
4. To explore medical products and commodities management
5. To review health financing mechanisms supporting the scheme
A brief presentation were made by the DG KTSCHMA on the impact and the prospect of formal sector scheme in Katsina, Drug supply chain and revolving fund management by the ES Drugs Management Katsina .
As Chairman of the event, the DG KTSCHMA, alongside the ES BOSCHMA serving as Co-chair, led the delegation to the State Specialist Hospital, Katsina, where they were received by the Medical Director, Dr. Abdulrahman Mohammed. He conducted a comprehensive tour showcasing KTSCHMA’s activities within the facility.
The team also visited the Drugs Management Agency of Katsina, where Pharm. Fatima Shuaibu Kurfi welcomed the delegation and took them around the drug storage and distribution units.
A courtesy visit was paid to the Honourable Commissioner of the Ministry of Health, Musa Adam Funtua. During the session, gaps, challenges, and recommendations were thoroughly discussed to support improvements in BOSCHMA’s ongoing implementation processes.
The delegation expressed deep appreciation to the DG KTSCHMA and his team for the warm reception, hospitality, and knowledge shared. The DG wished the team a safe trip back.
